Comments: The Images of America book series works with local writers and historians to create books highlighting the history of their neighborhoods. Barbara and Martin Rizek, authors of this book, were fixtures in their Financial District neighborhood. The book provides a look into its history. It is full of archival photos of the neighborhood, each chapter with a different focus: Neighborhood Life; Stores; Culture; Religious Life; Community Services and Education; The Last Days of the Neighborhood; and The World Trade Center. The pictures are charming: they show the origins of now-beloved sites, highlight families of the neighborhood, and offer a glimpse into the politics and culture of the time and place. This special copy of the book appears to have been annotated by the previous owner: the book includes an insert with copy of author's death notice, and several pages include taped-on additions to the photo captions, adding additional details about the individuals pictured.
