Comments: This book was published as the catalogue for the National Gallery of Art quincentenary exhibit of the same name, which ran from October 12, 1991 - January 12, 1992. The New York Times wrote that the exhibit itself "illuminate[d] a moment of worldwide artistic diversity and achievement." This work, stacking in at 671 pages, 569 entries, and 8 pounds, does the same. The Hispanic American Historical Review writes, "This tremendous volume of more than six hundred pages contains hundreds of first-quality reproductions of art, maps, and drawings, along with explanatory texts and introductory essays. It is a treasure for scholars and interested readers alike and an ideal souvenir of the Quincentenary year." This copy also comes with two programs from the exhibit.
