The Collection Part I
Cameos
Cameos
by Cyril Davenport
Very nice copy of the first edition of this important and scholarly work on the history of cameos. (A total of 18 editions were published between 1900 and 1975, and this first edition was the subject of an enthusiastic and detailed article in the May 11, 1901 edition of The Saturday Review, which is available online). Twelve full color illustrations and dozens of monochrome images. A standout is the head of Medusa rendered in amethyst. Contents include materials and processes of cutting, early cameos and glass pastes, Greco-Roman and medieval cameos, and Renaissance and later cameos.
