The Patient Has the Floor
$35.00
by Alistair Cooke
Published in 1986 by The Franklin Library, Franklin Center, PA
Edition: First edition, limited edition
Binding: Hardcover, leather bound.
Condition: New, in original shrink wrap.
Comments: New, signed, full leather binding and in original shrink wrap. Many of us know Alistair Cooke as the well spoken host of Masterpiece Theater for 21 years, but he had a long and distinguished career as a writer, journalist, television personality, and radio broadcaster. Cooke was a British citizen and Cambridge graduate before becoming an American citizen six days before the Pearl Harbor attack. HIs American Letter radio series, later renamed Letter from America, ran for a remarkable 58 years, ending only a month before his death. His journalism and war reporting careers were similarly distinguished. This volume is a collection of 14 essays, originally delivered as oral presentations on notable topics, and brimming with his well known wit, charm, and eloquence. Franklin Library books such as this one were designed and bound by the Sloves Organization, affiliated with the Franklin Mint, "one of the few binderies focused solely on leather book binding." The Franklin Press no longer exists, and thus new leather bound volumes in original shrink wrap are somewhat difficult to find. Full leather binding, all edges gilt, gilt stamped covers and spine, and satin ribbon page marker. (See photos. Your copy will be shrink-wrapped.)
